Nitroglycerin is preferable to diltiazem for prevention of coronary bypass conduit spasm

چکیده

Health technology The study focused on the use of two conduit vasodilators in the prevention of arterial conduit spasm after coronary bypass grafting (CABG). Patients received a 24-hour intravenous infusion of either nitroglycerin (0.1 microgram.kg-1.min-1) or diltiazem (0.1 mg/kg during 20 minutes and then 0.1 mg.kg-1.min-1), followed by 6 months of treatment with a daily dose of isosorbide mononitrate or diltiazem.

Nitroglycerin is preferable to diltiazem for prevention of coronary bypass conduit spasm.

BACKGROUND Diltiazem is widely used to prevent radial artery spasm after coronary bypass grafting (CABG). However, recent in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that nitroglycerin is a superior conduit vasodilator compared to diltiazem. A clinical comparison of these agents in patients undergoing CABG has not been previously performed. METHODS One hundred sixty-one consecutive patients under...

A comparative study on in vitro and in vivo effects of topical vasodilators in human internal mammary, radial artery and great saphenous vein.

OBJECTIVE As an important prognostic factor of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), graft vasospasm can be observed in all currently used graft conduits. Radial artery (RA) vasospasm is more prone to occur in comparisons with internal mammary artery (IMA) and great saphenous vein (GSV). There is still controversy about which antispasmodic agent is superior to different grafts, especially to ...

Effect of topical vasodilator on internal thoracic artery blood flow. A placebo-controlled clinical study

Objective: The internal thoracic artery (ITA) is the conduit of choice for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). To avoid spasm of the ITA various topical vasodilators have been suggested either intraluminally or by topical application. In order to describe the best vasodilating agent for preparation of the ITA, a randomized double-blind placebo controlled clinical work was performed in a gro...

Prevention of arterial graft spasm in rats using a vasodilator-eluting biodegradable nano-scaled fibre.

OBJECTIVES Arterial graft spasm occasionally causes circulatory collapse immediately following coronary artery bypass graft. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of our developed materials, which were composed of milrinone (phosphodiesterase III inhibitor) or diltiazem (calcium-channel blocker), with nano-scaled fibre made of biodegradable polymer to prevent arterial spasm. METHO...
